Black Dog Furniture, “the best friend your home ever had,” was founded by George and Renee Mackanin. We wanted to provide comfortable, handmade, quality furniture products that bring the outdoors into the home, forging a rustic, down-to-earth feel that defines the difference between a house and a home. We specialize in fine hand-crafted furniture by regional craftsmen. You’ll discover one-of-kind pieces that stand the test of time in both construction and design. Furthermore, we can satisfy your need for “green” building materials and furnishings, with a line of “ghost wood” products that are hand crafted from reclaimed barn wood. We pride ourselves on “special orders” and offer impeccable personalized customer service.
Black Dog Furniture is headquartered in Anaconda, Montana in the historic Washoe Brewery Building. The Washoe Brewery, built in 1905 is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Washoe Brewery is today the only surviving industrial plant in Anaconda that was not associated with the Anaconda Company, and the last of several local breweries. Anchoring the Northeast Corner of Goosetown, this massive 13,500 square foot, four-story facility borrows heavily from Italian Renaissance and Romanesque design with its dominating corner tower, round-arched windows, and heavy brick cornice. In 1916 when Prohibition went into effect in Montana, all breweries and liquor stores closed. The Anaconda Brewing Company became the Anaconda Products Company, and continued to bottle soft drinks. After the repeal of Montana's Prohibition in 1926, the Anaconda Brewing Company was reopened at 1200 East Park in Anaconda, Montana, by AJ Tuchscherer and his two sons, Arthur and Walter on July 1, 1933. AJ Tuchscherer died in 1944, but Arthur and Walter continued the production of Rocky Mountain Beer until 1955. On May 25, 2007, Black Dog Furniture opened for business.
